Photos of Dignity for Women Townhall- 6/21
The Dignity for Women Town Hall is a panel discussion with our state representatives who sponsored the Dignity Act of Pennsylvania, a package of legislation that aims to provide and protect the human rights of incarcerated women. Many of these bills were written and developed by formerly incarcerated women of color and their loved ones.
The event included presentations and performances by Blak Rap Madusa and Mary Baxter, a previously Incarcerated woman who was shackled while giving birth.
Representatives:
Morgan Cephas will speak about her investment in the entire package of bills and specifically her proposed bill to require the Department of Corrections to make annual reports on the health care screenings and services they provide.
Joanna McClinton will share her proposed bill to create a system to help people in prison register for all available benefits before release;
Movita Johnson-Harrell will speak about her proposed bills to ensure dignity for incarcerated womxn who are pregnant.
