Last night was inspiring!
Thank you to everyone who volunteered and voted for our local endorsed candidates - Rick Krajewski, Nikil Saval, Elizabeth Fiedler and Chris Raab!!!
The initial results in our two contested elections for Rick and Nikil are very exciting! There are still tens of thousands of mail-in ballots to count and we will be watching to ensure that every vote is counted and every voice is heard.
We are so proud of Rick and Nikil and the campaigns they ran, with the leadership of Amanda McIllmurray, Nikil’s campaign manager and Pele IrgangLaden, Rick’s campaign manager. Their campaigns responded to multiple crises by incorporating mutual aid into their campaigns and taking leadership in their communities when leadership was sorely missed.
We are proud of the issues they championed in their platforms - Mass Liberation, Universal Healthcare, Housing as a Human Right, Workers Rights, a Green New Deal and so much more. We are proud of the coalitions that they built, knowing that wins this big don’t happen in isolation - they are the result of so many people, community organizations and labor unions fighting with us and for us.
We are proud of their field teams, including so many of you, who made hundreds of thousands of calls and door knocks. (shout out to Aileen Callaghan, Adams Rackes, Tess Kerins and Haley Ratcliff with Nikil's campaign!, shout out to Rachie Weisberg and Ash Hagerty with Rick's campaign)
The past few weeks have left us feeling powerless - exactly what those upholding systemic oppression want us to feel. But our movement family has inspired us with election results like this, the Rizzo statue being removed and Minneapolis School Board voting to terminate its contract with the police. We are experiencing the power of the people when we organize together in solidarity.
While we wait for all of the ballots to be counted and are cautiously optimistic about the results, we know that there is always work to be done. In this moment we are still fighting to defund the police and fund our communities, we are fighting for basic housing protections, we are fighting against historic police brutality and new experiences of it each day as our city fights back against the status quo of racist systemic oppression and the murder of Black and Brown people.
Reclaim Philadelphia is the community that we build together, building power to fight against injustice. This powerful community we are building is our political home, where we fight for the future we need, grounded in the basic belief that each of us is valuable and deserves to thrive. If you’re not a member, we invite you to become a member today with a monthly donation of any amount.
We invite everyone to join us at our upcoming citywide meeting on 6/27 at 3:00pm where you can learn more about our work, find ways to get involved in your neighborhood and/or issue campaigns and hear from Rick Krajewski and Nikil Saval.
