After nearly 2 years, it’s clear to residents that justice is being denied at the PES refinery-turned-”Bellwether District.” This approach to development is harming Philadelphians and destabilizing the planet, but it’s not too late to choose equity, health, & life. The United South/SW Coalition for Healthy Communties is holding the FIRST in-person public meeting about the refinery redevelopment on June 4th.
The PES refinery redevelopment, now being referred to as the Bellwether District, is the largest single redevelopment in Philadelphia's history. So far, environmental justice has been denied as demolition has been underway for nearly two years without meaningful public involvement or a Community Benefits Agreement in place. The United South/Southwest Coalition for Healthy Communities has brought dozens of organizations together who are invested in full repair of the site's harmful history and a future of community stabilization & environmental health.
Come out on June 4th for the first in-person public meeting on the redevelopment, hosted by the Coalition with participation from Hilco representatives. At the meeting you'll receive information about the redevelopment, have a chance to share thoughts & questions for Hilco, and learn about next steps to ensure justice is delivered.
